Hey, I'm Manan.

I am an architect, I have done my bachelors in architecture from USAP, GGSIPU Delhi. I also hold a Masters in Advanced Architecture from IAAC, UPC Barcelona.


 I am passionate about teaching parametric & computational design through tools like Rhino & Grasshopper.

About the Workshop

Rhino is one of the best tools to explore and develop a wide range of solutions. Rhino is an ideal toolset to generate dynamic associated geometries such as NURBS surfaces, meshes and solid models. Go far beyond what has been previously possible to design or fabricate with the additional information Grasshopper can generate.​

This Workshop will cover everything from the basics, including surface modelling, annotation, precision modelling sub-division modelling and rendering. Learning and modelling real life examples will provide an extra edge to the students for practical projects.

By the end of the course, participants will have learnt the principles principles and commands to model their architecture projects on Rhino and 3D modelling will no more be a constraint for their designs and concepts.

Day 1 Saturday: Basics of Rhino

Part 01- Introduction of the tutor + brief overview of the course (15 minutes) Part 02- What is Rhino? (15 Minutes) Part 03- Basics of Rhino Modeling (Geometry Types) (15 minutes) Part 04- User Interface (30 minutes) o User Interface o Saving & Opening Files o Toolbars o Sidebars Part 05- Modeling Aids (15 Minutes) o Navigation & Mouse Actions o Using the ‘Gumball’ Part 06- Starting Modeling (30 Minutes) o Curves- Lines, Polylines, & Freeform Curves o Primitive 2D shapes- Circle, Rectangle, Ellipse o Primitive 3D Shapes- Box, Sphere, Cone, Cylinder. Part 07- Small Exercise- Modern Coffee Table (30 Minutes) (Commands- Simple 2D commands, transform commands, Extrude etc.) Part 08- Q&A Session (30 Minutes)

Day 2 Sunday: Precision Modelling

Part 01- Building Element- Twisting Staircase (1 Hour) (Commands- OffsetSrf, ArrayPolar, BlendEdge, Helix, Sweep1, Pipe etc.) Part 02- Building Scale Modeling- The Twist Museum by BIG (1.5 Hour) (CommandsBlendSrf, SplitFace, SplitCrv, ExtractSrf, FilletEdge etc.) Part 03- Q&A Session (30 Minutes)

Day 3 Saturday: Introduction to SUBD and 2D Annotation

Part 01- Introduction to SubD (45 Minutes) o What is SubD? o Special SubD commands Part 02- Modeling using SubD- Los Manantiales by Felix Candela (1 Hour 45 Minutes) (Commands- SubD tools, subD plane, offset subD, SubD bridge etc.) Part 03- Q&A Session (30 Minutes)

Day 4 Sunday: Parametric Modelling and Basic Rendering

Part 01- Modeling a Famous Building- by Herzog & de Meuron (1.5 Hour) (Commands- Crv2View, Project, Loft, Picture, Extrude etc.) Part 02- Quick Rendering Basics, Adding Materials (30 Minutes) Part 03- Q&A Session + Closing Address (1 Hour)

Workshop Requirements

• Please install Evaluation/Trial version (90 days) of Rhino7 (Grasshopper3D included) • Please check the system requirements before downloading the software. A system with corei5 processor and 4gb ram will be enough. • The participants must have a functional mouse with two buttons and a scrolling wheel.

The workshop was really helpful and thorough. I had a very basic understanding of Grasshopper. However this workshop opened ways for me in the parametric world. As the workshop covered very small project to Large scale complex project I got a understanding how far parametric design can go. Instructor was really helpful and co-operative.
